The title of this post is seriously exaggerated but work really is kicking my butt right now!! Pastry is not just flour and butter. It is flour and butter and standing on your feet for 12 hours with no real break because you are so busy, and working every weekend and holiday with a dash of vanilla, and a pinch of salt. That my dears is pastry…or at least where I work. Right now I am, reluctantly, the pastry “chef”. I am the sole person responsible for pastry production be it a cookie or a “insert sophisticated sounding dessert here”. However, today in spite of my fatigue, I felt proud as I plated up desserts for restaurant service. Those people are eating my stuff! Wowser!!
My desserts are not perfect but hard work and patience went into them. And I hope I am not coming off as a braggart. Its just that I have been gone for 15 hours today and gosh darn it I am gonna pat myself on the back! So, before I muscle rub myself to oblivion and hit the sac I present to you some of les desserts:
From top to bottom: Strawberry shortcake, Smith Island cake with brown butter ganache, and Apricot Sorbet with rainbow tuile and berries.
Close up of Strawberry shortcake.
That’s all! Good night/Good day!

inThis may seem a tad unusual but honey, let me tell you, I love cake batters! My favorite part of the baking process is incorporating the ingredients together. A properly mixed batter will yield beautiful results! The texture can be creamy, dense or airy, shiny or matte, enough to make you want to lick your spoon…which I don’t do because I’m a salmonella-phobe but that is beside the point. The point is I have amassed quite a collection of pics that will either bore you or if you are like me, excite you. Just for kicks I threw some creams in this collection as well. Enjoy!
Next post: Yummy desserts that from these batters come!! Yeah, buddy!

At the end of the day is God enough? Am I living my life for God or for me? Am I letting God fill the void? If I never have that job, get married, travel the world, lose weight, have children, get rich, become an actress/singer/dancer or whatever, will God be enough?
Note: This was a draft that I began on March 21st. I had an incredible rough day and was about to go to bed when these thoughts crossed my mind. I lay there thinking what am I really striving toward? And is it entirely selfish? I grabbed my cell phone and this was as far as I got. I haven’t been on this blog in a while and saw this unfinished post. I decided to post it as is. Thoughts?

Not just any pretty board. I’m talking about Inspiration Boards! A short while ago the girls and I were feeling crafty and decided to make inspiration boards.
What is an inspiration board? It is anything you want it to be! Simply a collage of anything meaningful to you. In my case, I am a list maker.
I am constantly jotting down desires, goals, wants, must see, must do and must try. However, these “list” get closed in a book or tucked away and forgotten. I wanted something prettier than a bulletin or cork board where I could stick these tidbits up, thereby, being reminded of them daily. I wanted to create a “visual space” where I could stick up anything that I liked that would inspire me to keep pressing toward my goals. Currently, these boards (although not reflected in the pictures) have, quotes, scripture, theater dates, pictures (you get the point) added to them.
Our inspiration boards were painted using acrylics, and embellished with feathers, beads, ribbon, and anything else that we could find. The birdies were bought but most of the things that we used were collected over time from earlier craft projects.
There is no wrong or right way to make these boards. In fact, we were surprised at how involved we became. What we thought would be a quick little project instead became a time to let our thoughts drift and let our hands do the talking.
There were a few oh oh moments and “what the heck am I doing?”. We had plenty of laughs, drank tea and played music. We got carried away at times to the point where we had to, kindly say to each other, “uh, I think that’s enough feathers.” And times when we wondered if we would have any space left to add our “inspirations” (the main reason for the boards!)
All in all, it was good fun. These boards will last for as long as we want them and will continue to evolve as our desires evolve. I guess that’s the beauty of these boards.
